BMX stands for “Bicycle Moto Cross” and it was born in California, USA in 1970s. Aside from Race, Street (Park) and Dirt Jumping, Flatland is a very unique category using the combination of body and bicycle and it can be called “Performance Art”. Flatland became popular in USA in the 1990s and extremely popular in Japan and Europe since 2000.

In those days, Flatland did not make its way into the media because it was not rabid enough for extreme sports compared to the “jump-based” categories like Vert and Dirt Jumping.

However, RedBull Circle Of Balance (COB) held in 2007 proves the impression that Flatland is a minor category. Flatland requires one to practice continuously, and to uphold a mental state for tense balance on the bike. The link to artistry and lifestyle in COB and shaped these out these and strike fire. On the other hand, COB is an invitation only contest.

“Performance Art” – dancing with Bike and “Sports/Play” – ultimate skill for competition.

These are the key rules of Flatland. What if there is a chance for all the riders all over the world to participate in a contest?

“Flatland as an art. Flatland as a sport.”

The BMX Flatland World Classic started as the ultimate answer of these values for everyone.
